Drew’s Ann Mularz was selected to the ESPN The Magazine National Academic All-America® second team. This extraordinary honor recognizes Mularz’s outstanding performance on the field as well as her exemplary academic record. The senior was a first team Academic All-District II selection prior to being tabbed to the national second team.
A big first half sparked Drew women’s basketball to a 61-41 win at Rutgers-Camden. The Rangers held the Raptors scoreless for the final 11 minutes of the first half to build a 30-13 lead at the break. Drew would never lead by fewer than 10 points for the rest of the game as it improved to 2-0 on the season. A pair of rookies, Danielle Barber and Victoria Ault, led the Rangers with 13 points. A second half surge from the Vassar Brewers sent the Drew men’s hoops to second straight loss, 71-53. After an evenly played first 27 minutes, a 17-2 run by the visitors ruined the Rangers’ home opener. Sophomore Kyle Joyce led the Rangers with 12 points and seven rebounds.
Drew’s World Diabetes Day Swim-A-Thon and Gary Hall, Jr. Clinic was a rousing success. The program, created by Drew senior Dan Sorenson and headlined by Hall’s entertaining and informative clinic, raised nearly $10,000 for diabetes research. Drew used a big run in each half to secure a season opening win at NJCU, 58-42. Jessica Del Vecchio and Ashley Logan helped spark a pair of surges, a 10-0 run in the first and a 13-3 one in the second, in a well earned win for the Rangers. Those two guards led Drew in scoring while Victoria Ault added 11 in her collegiate debut and Jessica Reid controlled the glass with 15 rebounds.
