Ali Abu Awwad is a leading activist at the forefront of a Palestinian movement for non-violence.

Imprisoned during the First Intifada, Ali embraced the path of non-violence through his study of Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., including his own 17-day hunger strike. During the Second Intifada, Ali’s brother Yousef was shot and killed, after which he joined other bereaved families in channeling pain and anger not only into nonviolent resistance, but also to bridge the divide between Palestinians and Israelis.
Working with organizations such as Synergos.orgJust Vision and Al-Tariq (“the way” in Arabic), Ali seeks to harness the momentum of a large cadre of Palestinians and equip them with the tools and non-violent methodology to become active participants in the decision-making process.
The Center on Religion, Culture and Conflict was proud to host this important presentation.
