Drew Theological School Dean Edwin David Aponte Preaches Opening Chapel Service

The new dean continued the long-standing tradition of preaching the first chapel service of the academic year

September 2022 – Drew Theological School Dean Edwin David Aponte continued the long-standing tradition of preaching the first Drew Chapel service of the academic year—and his career at Drew.

Aponte joined the Theological School as dean and professor of religion and culture on June 1.

“We’re on a great adventure together,” said Aponte. “Some of us have returned to Drew. Some of us are just starting here at Drew. It’s new and exciting in different ways for all of us.”

Aponte asked the worshipers to continue to work for justice and kindness. “As we start this academic year, we’re called on a path, but it’s not an individual path—we’re called together. We may have taken individual paths to get here, but now we’re here together.”

“We are here embarking on a new way together this academic semester,” continued Aponte.

Drew Chapel services are an important part of the community life at the Theological School. The shared space allows the community to come together for worship, inspiration, and reflection.

Services are open to the Drew community and held in Craig Chapel and livestreamed every Tuesday and Thursday at noon throughout the academic year.
