Journey through sun-drenched southern France, discovering the captivating region known as Provence. Begin in the Nice of Matisse and Chagall, and venture along the Mediterranean through medieval villages and Roman sites. Engage your inner cinephile at the International Film Festival in Cannes. Explore Aix, a university town famous for its concerts, opera and ballet and visit Arles, home to the French National School of Photography.

How does the popularization of Provence in the contemporary imagination connect to its traditional past and modern present? What are some examples of historical and contemporary artistic production in Provence? What are the elements of provençal culture that make it distinctive?

Immerse yourself in the art, history, language and rich cultural traditions of Provence. Expand your understanding of the heritage of this multicultural and breathtaking nexus of Europe and North Africa. Pick up some conversational French, or hone existing language skills. Walk landscapes of lavender fields and sunflowers that inspired van Gogh and Cezanne.


Converse with artists, filmmakers, photographers and cultural interpreters. Develop a research project, photo journal or travel video highlighting your understanding of provençal life.
