April 2012: Congratulations to NJGSS 2008 Alums Mathew Chalkley, Woo Chang Chung, and Kelvin Mei who have received the prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to college sophomores and juniors who intend to pursue science, math and engineering careers.
November 2011: Jacob Silberg, NJGSS 2010, has been honored with a New Jersey State Governor’s Award for his work and dedication to “Jake’s Cakes Against Cancer”, an organization he founded to raise money for cancer.
October 2011: Adam Riess, NJGSS 1987, a Johns Hopkins professor of Astronomy and Physics, has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics. Read more.
November 18, 2010: Mark Massaro, NJGSS 2009, is attending the University of Richmond as an Oldham Scholar. This is Richmond’s highest award. The University awards this scholarship to “those incoming students who exemplify the highest scholarship, personal integrity and potential for leadership.” It includes full tuition, room and board for all four years of undergraduate study, priority course registration and housing, and an additional stipend for undergraduate research.
November 18, 2010: Catherine Elorette, NJGSS 2009, is attending St. Joseph’s University, having received a full scholarship for women in science.
December 21, 2009: Dr. Darshak Sanghavi, NJGSS 1987, is the chief of pediatric cardiology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He is the author of “A Map of the Child: A Pediatrician’s Tour of the Body.” Dr. Sanghavi’s article “The Last Decision“, appeared in the New York Times Magazine on December 21, 2009.
May 2009: Mark Vander Schaaf, NJGSS 2008, has been named a Presidential Scholar. Mark is one of 141 outstanding American high school seniors that have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship, and service at school and in their community. The Presidential Scholars will be honored for their accomplishments in Washington, D.C. from June 20 – 24. Mark will attend Rice University in Houston, Texas where he plans on studying and conducting research in Materials Science and Engineering as well as joining the Ultimate Frisbee and Sailing teams.
