Abstract Art Shown at Drew

Artist influenced by Picasso and furniture-making.

November 2018 – The art of Andrew Zimmerman, displayed at Drew University, reflects several influences, including abstract art from the 1960s, Picasso and the experience of making furniture with his father as a child.

Rounded irregular shapes adorn the walls of Drew’s Korn Gallery, suggesting everything from a video game character to a hot air balloon. Zimmerman, who also has exhibited his art in New York City and Italy, describes his approach as “exploring the intersection between painting and sculpture, art and design and the hand-made and the mass-produced,” adding, “I am excited by the tension that arises from situating my work in between those categories.” Here’s a closer look at his Drew exhibit, Under/Cut.
