Katie Lynch was a computer science major, vice president of the campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity and captain of the women’s swim team. When she died of leukemia in 2009, at age 31, family, friends and colleagues established the Katie Lynch Memorial Scholarship in her honor. Now, with a gift of $100,000, her aunt, Dr. Tobey Klass, a Manhattan psychologist, has endowed the scholarship in perpetuity. Directing her retirement plan’s minimum required distributions to Drew reduces her taxable income while adding to the world’s good. Now, generations of Katie Lynch Scholars—women, like Katie, of high academic standing with an interest in information technology—can carry her memory forward.
