January 2022 – In early December 2021, the staff of Drew University’s Center for Career Development (CCD) was busy cutting ribbons, but not the kind found on a holiday gift.
Alongside representatives of University faculty, staff, alums, and students, the CCD hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new Career Closet, which will provide new and gently-used professional attire to Drew students, free of charge. To help stock the Career Closet, the CCD will host a donation drive throughout the month of February.
Located in Sycamore Cottage, and managed by the CCD, the Career Closet will help students embody success as they launch their careers.
“Professional dress is part of any good presentation,” said Chris Carbone, director of the Center for Career Development.
“It represents a commitment to work and an intention to be a part of a team’s success. The Center for Career Development is here for students and alums to learn how to present their best professional selves in the clothing that represents them and their industry.”
The Career Closet’s donation drive will accept new or gently-used blazers, suits/suit separates, dress pants, dresses, skirts, blouses, button up shirts, ties, belts, or winter jackets.
Students in need of professional attire are encouraged to make an appointment through Handshake to visit the Career Closet. A staff member will assist in reviewing current inventory against individual sizes and preferences. Students are eligible to receive up to one professional outfit per academic year.
