Christina Rodden C’24 Wanted an Interdisciplinary Education. Enter Drew University

“The faculty make themselves completely available, they encourage all of your interests, and the students are incredibly friendly.”

May 2022 – After receiving her associates degree, Christina Rodden C’24 was looking to transfer to a school where she could study all the fields she was interested in pursuing—theatre arts, communications, and English.

Enter Drew University, stage left.

“I decided to transfer to Drew University because of how interdisciplinary it was,” she said. “I’ve been able to become a double major in theatre arts and media and communications, with a minor in English. That wouldn’t have been possible at many of the other schools I was considering.”

Looking back (and forward), Rodden knows she made the right choice.

“My experience here has been overwhelmingly positive,” she said. “I went to two colleges before Drew, and this is the most welcoming campus I’ve ever been to. The faculty make themselves completely available, they encourage all of your interests, and the students are incredibly friendly.”

Rodden has fully immersed herself academically at Drew, particularly in theatre arts. She was chosen as one of the dramaturgs for the 2022 Spring Dance Show based on her performance in her dramaturgy course and made the dramaturgy board of the program’s Black Box Theatre.

“It was a wonderful opportunity to gain experience in a field that I’m interested in pursuing after graduation, but it was also very special to be a part of that artistic journey. I’ll never forget it.”

This summer, Rodden will get more hands-on theatre arts experience through a for-credit dramaturgical internship with the Firebrand Theatre in Canada where she’ll conduct research and help develop a script for a new musical.

Rodden will then continue her streak of learning abroad by taking part in the fall 2022 London Semester before reimmersing herself on campus in spring 2023.
