Drew Theological School Launches Never Stop Breathing

The movement for health and social justice is sponsored by Drew’s Religion and Global Health Forum.

August 2020 – Drew Theological School’s Religion & Global Health Forum launched Never Stop Breathing (NSB), a movement for health and social justice that focuses on eliminating health disparities and resourcing quality solutions to systemic health and social inequities in global and local health.

"NSB embraces racial and health justice as a fundamental human and moral right.”

“We have a mandate to breathe, and NSB believes that racial dignity and empowerment are inextricably connected to quality healthcare,” said Kenneth Ngwa, associate professor of Hebrew bible and the driving force behind NSB. “As an advocate for systemic responses to intersecting health and social inequities, NSB embraces racial and health justice as a fundamental human and moral right.”

NSB is actively working on a number of projects to work towards the goal of mitigating healthcare disparities and inequities. Among them is the NSB 846 Project, an actionable and customizable commitment to create programs and events that will directly benefit Black and marginalized communities.

Acting Dean Melanie Johnson-DeBaufre sees the work of NSB as deeply resonant with the biblical tradition, “Breathing represents the exchange of God’s spirit, it animates life, establishes interdependence and holds people accountable to a shared humanity.”

The launch was celebrated with a virtual panel discussion featuring Drew Theological School professors, staff and distinguished community guests. Check it out below!
