First-year students will reside within one of the three designated First Year Hall Complexes – Tolley Hall, Brown Hall, or Welch Hall – in double occupancy rooms and a few triples. Transfer and Upperclassmen students will reside within our various upperclassmen complexes: Holloway Hall, McLendon Hall, McClintock Hall, Foster Hall, Hurst Hall, Riker Hall, Baldwin Hall, Haselton Hall, Asbury Hall, Hoyt-Bowne Hall, and Eberhardt Hall.

All of the residence halls are all furnished with a bed frame, an extra-long mattress (measuring 35” x 80”), dresser(s), desk, desk chair, mirror, two wastebaskets (one for trash and another for recycling) and hanging space or wardrobes. Students are encouraged to decorate their rooms to make them personally appealing and to reflect their interests. All rooms have at least one window with either shades or mini blinds (window coverings are permitted).

STUDENT HOUSING APPLICATION

All students must complete the on-line housing application by July 1st to be assigned housing for the fall semester. To complete your housing application:

  • Go to drew.edu/housingportal
  • Enter your name and password.
  • Select the Hamburger-menu icon at the top of the screen.
  • Select “Forms and Applications.”
  • Select the application (New students must select “CLA First Year” or “Transfer Student”).
  • Read over the Housing Agreement. You must agree to these terms to proceed.
  • Type your name into the Electronic Signature and press “Continue.”
  • Answer all personal preference questions. Click on “Continue.”
  • You will select your meal plan preference for next fall at this time.
  • You have now completed the Student Housing application. A copy of the Housing Agreement will be sent to your Drew email.
ROOMMATE APPLICATION

First-Year students may choose a roommate for the fall and spring semester. However, most students do NOT select a roommate. Drew, like most colleges, assigns roommates. Most students, however, will have an assigned roommate by July 20th, as long as a housing application is completed. Students who do not choose a roommate will be paired with a roommate based on the questions on the Housing Application.

In cases where friendships have developed and students wish to live together, new first-year and transfer students may request a roommate by July 1st. Both students must first complete the Housing Application. To choose a roommate follow these steps:

  • Go to drew.edu/housingportal
  • Enter your name and password.
  • Select the Hamburger-menu icon at the top of the screen.
  • Select “Room Selection”
  • Select “Roommate/Suitemate”.
  • Select term
  • To select a roommate, search for them via name or, Drew e-mail address and press, “Begin Search”.
  • Please note, if your desired roommate has not completed their on-line application you will not be able to find them and request them as your roommate.
  • Your requested roommate will have to confirm your request and agree to you as roommate by following the same instructions and selecting “accept” (green) to your request.
  • In the section marked Roommate Request it will say “Your roommate group is fully matched”.

Both students must complete this process and choose each other in order for the request to be processed.

We encourage you to contact your roommate prior to arriving on campus to coordinate room set-up. For example: common items such as carpets and televisions.

Note: Completing this roommate selection process does not guarantee that you will be paired together.

CHANGE OF STATUS (RESIDENT TO COMMUTER)

The University believes that learning takes place outside the classroom as well as within. An important component of the college experience is living in community with others, participating in student organizations and attending events. There are a variety of housing styles for undergraduates including theme houses, special interest floors, suites, and many single occupancy rooms. In addition, dynamic programming takes place in all residence halls. Thus, all undergraduate students are expected to live on campus in order to fully benefit from the residential experience and co-curricular activities and to enjoy the full advantages of residential learning.

All full time, enrolled, undergraduate students are required to live on campus during their years of study at Drew. Students can apply for commuter status if they will be residing with a parent or, family member designated by a parent, and live within a fifty mile radius of the campus.

To change your status from resident to commuter you MUST complete this form. Please also be sure to check with your financial aid advisor to ensure your aid package is up to date.
