Drew University Faculty Leaders Recognized for Their Accomplishments

Eight faculty members earn promotions and/or granted tenure

June 2021 – Drew University is proud to recognize eight faculty members who have earned promotions and/or have been granted tenure, effective with the fall 2021 semester.

The promotions, approved by Drew University’s Board of Trustees, were recommended by the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies Ryan Hinrichs, the Theological School Interim Dean Melanie Johnson-DeBaufre and the Committees on Faculty.

The following faculty members earned promotions to full professor:

Marguerite Keane, Professor of Art History
Keane earned a doctorate in art history from the University of California, Santa Barbara and an M.A. in art history from Williams College.


Lisa Lynch, Professor of Media and Communications
Lynch earned a Ph.D. in English language and literature/letters from Rutgers University, an M.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and a B.A. in English from Stanford University.


Mark Miller, Professor of Church Music
Miller received his Master of Music in organ performance from the Juilliard School and his B.A. in music from Yale University.


Kenneth Ngwa, Professor of Hebrew Bible
Ngwa earned his Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary and his M.A. and B.A. from Yaoundé Faculty of Protestant Theology, Cameroon.


Kathryn Ott, Professor of Christian Social Ethics
Ott holds a doctorate in Christian social ethics from Union Theological Seminary and a M.A. in religion from Yale Divinity School.


Maliha Safri, Chair and Professor of Economics
Safri earned a Ph.D. and M.A. in economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a B.A. in economics from Knox College.


The following faculty member was granted tenure and earned a promotion to associate professor:

Sangay Mishra, Associate Professor of Political Science and International Relations
Mishra was a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at Lehigh University. He received his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.


The following faculty member was granted tenure:

Yahya Madra, Associate Professor of Economics
Madra hold a Ph.D. in economics at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a B.A. in economics from Boğaziçi University, Istanbul, Turkey.
