Nick Caicedo C’20, G’21 Doubles Down on Drew University Business, Finance Degrees

Alum followed his bachelor’s in business with a Master of Science in Finance and job in regulatory finance

March 2022 – When COVID-19 hit the pause button on the world just as Nick Caicedo C’20, G’21 was set to graduate from Drew University, he decided to stick around to earn a masters degree.

With a bachelor’s degree in business in hand, Caicedo took advantage of the Caspersen School of Graduate Studiesexpanding Master of Science in Finance (MFin) offering.

“It was a no brainer,” he said. “The relationships and experiences I made as an undergrad made Drew feel like home, and the fact I could do an accelerated one-year program solidified my decision.”

During his year in the MFin program, Caicedo expanded his knowledge and connected with industry professionals, both of which have helped launch and guide his career.

“From the extensive coursework to the amazing relationships I developed with my colleagues and professors, Drew’s MFin program was easily one of the best decisions I’ve made in my young career,” he said.

Caicedo first went to work at Chubb Insurance. Despite a great experience, he wanted to better utilize the skills he’d gained throughout his undergraduate and graduate studies. He leveraged the extensive network of Drew alums to land a job as an advisory associate with KPMG’s Financial Services – Regulatory and Compliance Risk Business for Capital Markets team.

“I feel like every single course I took throughout the MFin program has in some way helped me in my position at KPMG,” said Caicedo. “Two that I feel directly apply to my current role are Financial Risk Management and Behavioral Finance.”

“The MFin program was epistemically and personally transformative for me. It not only challenged my preconceptions about the vast financial industry, but challenged me to be a better colleague as well as a professional.”
