Commencement 2022 featured separate ceremonies honoring the College of Liberal Arts, Caspersen School of Graduate Studies and Drew Theological School
May 2022 – Drew University Commencement 2022 celebrated graduating students across all three of its schools over the weekend.
The forecasted rain held as festivities began on Mead Hall lawn Friday, May 13, with individual ceremonies for the Drew Theological School and Caspersen School of Graduate Studies. The College of Liberal Arts held their ceremony the following morning on Saturday, May 14.
In all, more than 470 students processed down Graduation Path, heard from a variety of inspiring speakers, and crossed the Commencement stage, diplomas in hand.
Drew University President Thomas Schwarz led off each ceremony asking that all students stand so they could be recognized for their achievements. The corresponding applause was followed by President Schwarz asking for the same treatment for the attending friends and family members, honored for their support. It was then the faculty’s turn to receive a round of applause for their dedication to and guidance of the graduates.
“And now, all of you stand and applaud each other to recognize that without each other, this day would not be possible,” said President Schwarz.
President Schwarz commended the graduates for their perseverance, adaptability, and ability to overcome adversity amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Graduates and their friends and families heard from student speakers and honorary degree recipients, and applauded each school’s teacher of the year, announced as a surprise to all.
