“I am very excited to be here. I consider it a privilege every day, and I have the opportunity to make my family proud in every possible way.”
February 2023 – Nia Núñez C’26 lives a mere 20 minutes away from Drew University. But her convenient proximity to campus was not the factor that solidified her decision to attend Drew.
Núñez is the fifth member of her family to attend Drew in 30 years.
“It has been amazing,” she said of her decision to continue her family’s legacy.
“It is a huge school in my family,” she said. “One of my biggest dreams as a little kid was to attend this university. I am very excited to be here. I consider it a privilege every day, and I have the opportunity to make my family proud in every possible way.”
Núñez’s father, Joel Núñez C’96, started the trend. Followed by her aunt, Ana Núñez-Robertson C’01, and two cousins; Genesis Perez C’22 and Josiah Núñez C’24.

Visiting Drew’s campus is ingrained in Núñez’s childhood memories. “I remember it like it was yesterday,” she said. “Almost every Saturday afternoon, my Dad would take my family and I to Simon Forum to play around for hours. We would then get to eat in the Commons afterwards, and my Dad would introduce me to just about everyone who worked there (some of them still recognize me because of my family’s history with the school).”
“The fact that I had so many connections with this school growing up, allowed me to become comfortable with at least one institution when I started applying to different schools,” she said.
Her parents even got married on Mead Lawn in 1999!
“I couldn’t be prouder to be a Ranger, and I certainly couldn’t be prouder to be a Núñez and continue a family legacy,” she said.
We would imagine the list of Drew graduates from the Núñez family will continue to grow over the next 30 years!
