Drew Theological School Welcomes Prospective Students from Near and Far

May 2023 – Through virtual and in-person options, Drew Theological School prospective students were given the opportunity to spend the day with current faculty, staff, and students at the recent Open Doors events.

The Theological School offered one full-day in-person session and two virtual sessions—providing perspectives on student life and allowing for a class visit.

The events were very well-attended, drawing the largest collective group of prospective students since 2019—from New Jersey, New York, California, Rhode Island, The Gambia, The Congo, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Several current students considering a Doctor of Ministry also attended.

“I am returning to Drew to continue my education because it is a place where all are welcome to discover their God-given gifts in an open and progressive environment,” said Katherine Rollo T’21. “The student body is diverse and the faculty is nurturing. I cannot think of a place where I feel more encouraged to pursue a Doctor of Ministry.”

“We were pleased with the overall outcome of our Spring Open Doors week and grateful to engage with prospective, returning, and incoming students,” said Assistant Director of Theological Admissions Kirsten Trambley T’20,’21.

Associate Dean Tanya Linn Bennett moderated a student life panel discussion featuring students Labenyimoh Patrick T’23 and Megan Hale T’23. They shared their student life experiences through caucuses and friendships, internships on and off campus, and in-class participation.

All attendees were welcomed to attend a chapel service. Theological School Dean Edwin David Aponte led a sermon about surprises you may find on an unfamiliar road. “Wherever we may be on the roads that make up our lives, may it be that we are open to the surprising cause of God’s spirit to go down a different road in order to share God’s love with everyone. On that road may we be surprised by what the spirit of God has in store for us, as well as for others.”

“We truly believe that our online students studying throughout the U.S. and around the world can be fully immersed within the theological community even if they are never on Drew’s campus in New Jersey,” said Trambley.

“We continue to evolve to meet the needs of prospective students, whether they are in the local metro area, at a distance in the U.S., or around the globe in locations such as Zimbabwe, Colombia, or South Korea,” she said. “We will continue opening our doors, metaphorically and literally, in the coming months with more opportunities to engage with prospective students interested in attending Drew Theological School.”
