April 2024 – The Drew University Theatre & Dance Department welcomed Broadway actors Michael McCormick and Jess LeProtto to lead a conversation and dance workshop with students.

McCormick and LeProtto are both currently performing in A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical on Broadway.

McCormick, an esteemed Broadway performer with more than 30 years of experience on stage (Wicked, Hello Dolly, The Producers, Les Miserables, Gypsy), first led a conversation on the business of building and maintaining a career in the industry from the perspective of a character actor.

LeProtto, a rising star on stage and screen (Carousel, Hello Dolly, The Boy From Oz, West Side Story, So You Think You Can Dance) spoke about the demands of building a career on today’s Broadway.

Following the discussion, LeProtto led students through several of the dance routines from A Beautiful Noise in the Kean Blackbox Theatre.

This was the second in a series of ongoing professional development workshops held by the Theatre & Dance Department, celebrating its new Musical Theatre minor and the department’s ties to the professional world.

The first event, held in March, welcomed Broadway veteran Natalie Cortez (A Chorus Line, West Side Story).
