“The Future of Learning” with Michelle Weise and Richard Miller
February 2025 – Drew University began its Presidential Innovation Series by welcoming Michelle Weise and Richard Miller for a discussion on “The Future of Learning.”
Moderated by Drew President Hilary L. Link, PhD, the virtual event kicked off a series that will bring thought leaders, including Drew alumni and trustees, who are at the forefront of innovation and disruption in their industries.
Weise and Miller are both internationally recognized for their perspectives on the connection between education, workforce needs, and life-long learning.
Weise is the CEO of Long Life Learning Strategies and the author of Long Life Learning: Preparing for Jobs that Don’t Even Exist Yet. Miller is the former president of the Olin College of Engineering, where he is now president emeritus and professor emeritus of mechanical engineering.
Referencing Drew’s innovative history—back to being the first liberal arts school to supply computers to its students 1984—Link framed the series as looking at the future of various industries and subjects with direct and indirect ties to higher education.
Link, Weise, and Miller tossed around the big picture questions facing higher education. Is higher education broken? What would a new type of university look like? How can radical educational models that succeed on a small scale be applied to the broader landscape? What role AI and technology will play in the future of higher education? What is the future of higher education in one word?
Tune in for upcoming events that will tackle major issues and offer insights from true innovators.
