Tia Prabhakar will teach in Germany
June 2026 – Recent Drew University graduate Tia Prabhakar C’26 will begin her post-college life teaching in Germany thanks to a Fulbright Scholarship.
Prabhakar accepted an English Teaching Assistant grant and will teach in a secondary school in Saxony, Germany, for 10 months.
“I am particularly drawn to ESL because I love learning languages and enjoy helping others learn them as well,” explained Prabhakar, a double major in English literature and German studies and a minor in linguistic studies.
Prabhakar is no stranger to studying and teaching internationally.
As a junior, Prabhakar studied abroad in Vienna, participating in a Drew Global Partner Program longTREC via IES Abroad’s Vienna: European Society & Culture program. In addition to her studies, Prabhakar also held a teaching internship while abroad, assisting in four English classes and teaching students about life in America.
Vienna marked Prabhakar’s second international excursion while at Drew. As a sophomore, she participated in a DAAD Summer University Course Grant in Leipzig, Germany, a one-month intensive language study where Prabhakar was able to take her German outside of a classroom setting and into the real world.
“German was now an everyday tool for me rather than just one of my hobbies,” she said.
Prabhakar also noted her work on campus as being pivotal in fleshing out her Fulbright application essays. She pointed to German studies tutoring and working as a TA for German 101 and an independent study.
Prabhakar also served as an international ambassador (IA) at Drew’s Tilghman International Center.
“I helped students from all over the world adjust to a new environment. This unique, relevant work experience helped me gain experience in managing large groups of students in a multicultural setting.”
