Stroman will make multiple classroom visits and discuss her career at a public October 8 event
September 2026 – Drew University is proud to announce five-time Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Susan Stroman as Artist-in-Residence for the 2026-27 academic year.
As the anchor of her residency, Stroman will make multiple classroom visits to Drew.
Across her visits, Stroman will introduce theatre/dance students to her career and approach to theatre, teach movement, work with them on scenes, and engage in a mock Broadway audition.
Stroman will also join Drew University President Hilary L. Link, PhD, in a discussion about her career and works. The event will be open to the public and take place on October 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Drew. Tickets are available here.

Stroman is best known for choreographing and directing major Broadway shows including The Producers, Contact, The Scottsboro Boys, and Crazy for You. Her most recent Broadway shows include the musical SMASH, the play Left on Tenth, the new musical New York, New York, and the play POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive.
Stroman is a member of the Board of Directors for the Ronald O. Perelman Center for the Performing Arts and has recently been named the president of Guild Hall’s Academy of the Arts. She is the recipient of the George Abbott Award for Lifetime Achievement in the American Theater and an inductee of the Theater Hall of Fame in New York City.
