“I came here trying to figure out where God was leading me, and I believe Drew has been an important part of helping me discover and prepare for that calling.”
October 2026 – Joshua Lang T’27 came to Drew Theological School knowing he wanted to study scripture, theology, and ministry, but with unanswered questions as to the specific direction or denomination.
Lang originally joined Drew’s Master of Arts in Theological and Ministry Studies (MATM) program because it gave him the opportunity to learn and continue discerning.

Over time, in part due to his time at Drew, he became more confident that he was being called toward pastoral ministry within the United Methodist Church. This clarity led to him transferring into the Master of Divinity (United Methodist Church) program.
“The program has been a great fit because I can connect what I’m learning in scripture, theology, and ministry with what I believe God is calling me to do,” said Lang.
Lang, who attends the Drew Theological School virtually from South Carolina, has benefitted from the structure of the program.
“The flexibility has also been huge since I work full-time,” said Lang. “Having different options with asynchronous, self-paced, and WebEx classes has made it possible for me to balance school, work, and everyday life.”
Lang has felt the online setting to be notably impactful.
“My experience as a fully online student has been really great,” he said. “Drew has done a phenomenal job creating a strong online classroom experience. Even though we’re physically far apart, I don’t feel disconnected. I have classmates from South Korea, Africa, Europe, South America, and different parts of the U.S. Being able to learn with people from all over the world has been one of my favorite parts of the program. I believe God made everyone wonderfully and uniquely different, and we should learn from one another and value the gifts God has given us.”
For Lang, his Drew experience has been revelatory.
“I’m really grateful for my experience at Drew so far. I came here trying to figure out where God was leading me, and I believe Drew has been an important part of helping me discover and prepare for that calling!”
