January 2021 – Small class sizes, individualized attention, devoted mentors, and networking opportunities with passionate, connected alumni are hallmarks of a small liberal arts school like Drew. In each of those areas, it’s the people that matter most.
That’s certainly the idea behind Academic Influence, a new ranking website that just released its first-ever set of rankings, which praise Drew University as a top school in the nation.
The website, comprised of academics and data scientists, ranked Drew 47th in the country in their list of the 50 Best Liberal Arts Colleges & Universities in the U.S.
Academic Influence ranked 998 liberal arts colleges based on their objective ranking methodology called “concentrated influence,” new to the world of college rankings and created using impartial data rather than self-reported or reputation-based information.
The metric is calculated by using artificial intelligence to measure the influence scores of a university’s top influencers, including faculty and alumni, in relation to the school’s size.
“The people affiliated with a school are ultimately what make it great,” explained the website.
In addition to measuring the influence of the people affiliated with a school, the metric also evens the playing field between small, medium, and large universities.
“Our approach highlights undergraduate schools that truly rank for excellence, regardless of size,” said the website.
Also among the top 50 are schools like Hamilton, Occidental, Sarah Lawrence, and Swarthmore.
