Seniors on their paths to careers.
May 2019 – Eight seniors from Drew University’s Class of 2019 talk about how studying abroad or in New York City, doing research with professors, working as a fellow or leading student groups helped launch their careers.
Kyra Cipolla: Scientific research in Mexico, teaching in Italy
Kyra, who majored in environmental science and sustainability and Italian, was a Baldwin Honors and Civic Scholar and earned the Burke Prize in Language and Literature and Slipper-McClintock Prize at the 2019 CLA Awards.
Manny Familia: Ralph Lauren
Manny, who majored in biology and minored in Italian studies, assumed leadership roles at the Black Student Union, Kuumba and the Student Health Organization.
Inji Kim: Georgetown
Inji, who majored in art history and economics and minored in arts administration and museology, interned at the Guggenheim in Manhattan and the Pera Museum in Istanbul, studied abroad in London and helped manage the student-run TEDxDrewUniversity.
Manny Lopez: Crum & Forster Insurance
A psychology and Spanish major and political science minor, Manny was senior advisor for Latino student group ARIEL, a class senator in Student Government and earned second place for the Norman Guy Prize in Speech.
Shaylyn MacKinnon: Peace Corps, Rwanda
A triple major in English, Spanish and international relations, Shaylyn won the 2019 Robert Fisher Oxnam Prize and was editor in chief of The Drew Acorn, captain of the lacrosse team, a DSEM Writing Fellow and a Baldwin Honors Scholar.
Molly Murphy: PhD candidate, UMass
A biochemistry and molecular biology major, Molly conducted research at the Drew Summer Science Institute and in the labs of professors Brianne Barker and Stephen Dunaway, served as a DSEM Writing Fellow and sang in the all-female a cappella group On a Different Note.
Chatham Studer: Prudential Financial
Chatham, an economics and Spanish major and business minor, took advantage of several global education programs, played forward on the basketball team, was a Civic Scholar and was CIO of The Fund.
Abbie Young: Special Olympics New Hampshire
Abbie, a women’s and gender studies and sociology major who minored in business, earned the Class of 1988 Award for Excellence in Sociology this year and the Elbridge and Edna Smith Prize in 2018 and twice received the Beverly Balch Allinsmith Scholarship for Excellence in Women’s and Gender Studies.
