“Although I have been here for only one year, I have become the best, most grounded version of myself. Drew gave me the rare opportunity to start fresh, and I am so grateful.”
May 2022 – We’re taking a look at where some of the Drew University College of Liberal Arts Class of 2022 is heading.
Justine Drake C’22
Political science major, philosophy minor
Transfer student, women’s swim team (fall 2021), founder of the Title IX Sexual Assault Student Awareness Group, member of Sigma Alpha Pi (political science) honors society.
Where she’s going
Drake will attend Bloomsburg University’s MBA program this fall after continuing her internship with NJ-11 Rep. Mikie Sherrill’s reelection campaign, a position she secured through Drew. She then plans to attend law school.
Looking ahead
“Ultimately, I hope to find a career that unites both of my experiences in completing the education of both an MBA and JD. I am passionate about women’s advocacy, specifically in sexual violence legislation and outreach centers. Ideally, I would like to find a career that takes these personal convictions and transforms them into meaningful social change.”
Starting her path at Drew
“I had the honor of receiving runner-up in this year’s Norman Guy Speech Contest with my piece ‘Hear Her Story, Say Her Name,’ a creative non-fiction essay on college aged female athletes and their experiences with sexual assault trauma. This is just one example of how Drew forced me out of my comfort zone. Inasmuch, I was given the confidence to commit to integrating my passion for survivor justice within my career.
“When I say ‘Drew’ I mean every single person who has interacted with me and accepted me for who I am: my friends, my professors, my RAs, etc. I also mean the University as a physical property and its intrinsically serene and nature based atmosphere.”
Finding herself at Drew
“Although I have been here for only one year, I have become the best, most grounded version of myself. Drew gave me the rare opportunity to start fresh, and I am so grateful.”
