Jamie Lynn Connors C’23 | Caspersen School of Graduate Studies Masters in Data Science

Minors: Statistics

Who are your Drew mentors?

Without the help of professors Sarah Abramowitz [John H. Evans Professor, Chair of Mathematics and Computer Science, and Chair of Business] and Yi Lu [Norma Gilbert Junior Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science] I would truly be lost. My relationship with them began as a student, then morphed into an advisee. They always welcomed me into their offices with open arms, whether to help with my thesis, classes, or future plans. Working with them in the Drew Summer Science Institute (DSSI) and a number of independent studies, I was exposed to real, statistical research, which I am choosing to pursue further.

What stands out about your time at Drew?

If you had asked me about completing an honors thesis in the fall semester of my final year, I would’ve said that it was an insane idea. Now, however, I would say it was one of the best experiences I’ve had. Conducting outside research alongside normal classwork for years (and yes, years; I had been researching this topic for a long, long time) taught me so many life skills, and provided the unexplainable gratification of seeing my work completed and published. It was truly an experience I will not be forgetting for a long time.
