A Statement from President Link and the Cabinet, 10/11/23

Dear Drew Community,

As mid-semester breaks conclude, we know many of you remain in shock and sadness over this weekend’s horrific violence in Israel and the ongoing violence in Gaza. We extend comfort to all who have experienced loss of family, friends or a sense of safety, and to anyone affected by these events.

If you are in need of any support, we encourage you to contact the McClintock Center for Counseling and Psychological Services, the University Employee Assistance Program, the University Chaplain or Members of the Religious Life Council or staff in the Dean of Students Office.

In line with our mission and values to “add to the world’s good,” we condemn all acts of terrorism and indiscriminate violence targeting civilian populations around the globe. As we condemn this conflict’s impact on innocent citizens, we reaffirm our support for all members of our community. We reject all forms of hate while simultaneously committing to honest and respectful dialog, learning and exchange, even around the most challenging topics.

As a diverse community of learners and educators with varying connections to and perspectives on the conflict, and as events continue to unfold, we ask that everyone uphold the spirit of empathy and compassion on which the Drew community prides itself and for which it is rightfully known.

Sincerely,

Hilary Link, President

Jessica Lakin, Provost

Barb Bresnahan, Chief of Staff & Dean of Administration

Frank Merckx, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Campus Life

Bret Silver, Vice President for University Advancement

Greg Smith, Vice President of Facilities and Real Estate
