Thomas Millary T’17 honored at ecstatic naturalism conference.
May 2018 – Drew Theological School graduate Thomas Millary earned the Ralph Waldo Emerson Prize for a paper on ecstatic naturalism.
Millary, who last year earned a master of arts at the Theological School, received the award at the 8th Annual Congress on Ecstatic Naturalism, which took place at Drew. The conference convened top scholars and thought leaders to explore topics surrounding the theme of the connections of human and animal minds, the role of semiotics in nature and the power of symbols.
Students and professors from the United States and Korea presented papers on topics such as transcendentalist metaphysics, artificial intelligence, Daoism, biosemiotics and pantheism. In addition, Robert Corrington, developer of the philosophy of ecstatic naturalism and the Henry Anson Buttz Professor of Philosophical Theology at the Theological School, was interviewed by Dr. Leon Niemoczynski of Moravian College.
