Wide World of Sports

One unexpected perk of Drew’s strength in attracting international students is the energy they infuse into our club sports culture: new teams, big plans and ever-growing rosters that represent every corner of the globe.

Drew ranks in the top 10 percent of baccalaureate schools enrolling international students. Who benefits? Club sports, for one. Players hail from Brazil, China, Czech Republic, Germany, Ghana, India, Italy, Indonesia, Kenya, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Turkey and more!

ESPORTS > Plans are in the works for our new League of Legends team to compete against other Landmark Conference schools. Key in organizing the club was Fabio Andre Camargo Ferraz C’19, a Brazilian student who had an offer to go pro—but headed to Drew instead.

VOLLEYBALL > A student-run executive board has transformed an informal group into a women’s team already competing in a league and a men’s team in the process of joining one. At least eight countries are represented on the court.

MEN’S RUGBY CLUB > Drew was ahead of the curve in the USA when it formed its squad. The club has been making international students feel at home since 1963.

FIGHT CLUB > Fatima Alabbas C’21 had an idea for a boxing club, which has grown into an outlet for Drewids to take self-defense classes and to learn and practice an array of martial arts from many cultures and traditions.

BADMINTON CLUB > Love for a sport popular in her native China inspired Yuqin “Anna” He C’22 to found this new club. The coed team competes in men’s and women’s singles and doubles events as well as mixed doubles.
