Drew Incoming Class Largest in Seven Years

Number of incoming students up 39 percent in four years.

September 2018 – The Forest continues to grow.

Drew University’s first-year class is the largest in seven years, 13 percent bigger than last year’s and up 39 percent in the last four years. Incoming students have stronger SAT scores—42 points higher than four years ago—and are more international—Drew ranks 19th nationwide among baccalaureate colleges for enrolling students from outside the U.S.

This fall’s double-digit growth comes amid an expansion of Drew’s programs as the university added new majors and minors (including Media & Communications, Public Health, Data Science, Environmental Studies & Sustainability), new professional combined-degree programs with schools such as Columbia, Duke and Wake Forest, a new first-year experience, new New York City semesters and new sports teams. Plus, the university reduced its tuition by 20 percent in fall 2018.

When asked why they chose Drew, #Drew22 students cited its welcoming professors, internship opportunities, proximity to New York City and undergraduate research programs. To hear more from them, please click here.

The university anticipates that its expansion will continue in coming years with the addition of Launch, its new leading-edge program that syncs career prep with rigorous academics and powerful community. Students are guaranteed two real-world, resume ready learning experiences—such as internships, hands-on research and City Semesters—and plenty of opportunities to earn industry-recognized credentials. A mentorship team supports and guides them along the way. Additionally, Drew’s 2018 20 percent tuition reset, along with its generous financial aid, continues to provide value.

Drew’s growth comes as the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings placed Drew in the top 20 percent of the best schools in the U.S. In addition, The Princeton Review continues to feature the school in its select guide, The Best 384 Colleges, and ranks Drew top 10 in theater and race/class interaction. Drew has also been featured as a “Best Bang for Your Buck” school by Washington Monthly and on The Princeton Review’s list of 50 “Colleges that Create Futures.
