Drew Improves Lofty International Enrollment Ranking

No. 6 in the nation among baccalaureate colleges

November 2020 – Drew University continued its steady climb in its international enrollment efforts, ranking 6th in the nation in the Institute of International Education’s 2020 Open Doors report.

With its 448 international students, Drew is the only school in New Jersey to make the Top 40 Baccalaureate Colleges list.

“Drew’s diversity is among its greatest strengths,” Interim President Thomas J. Schwarz said. “We take pride in our strong global presence—both in and out of the classroom—and how the University is enriched by our community of international students.”

Critical to welcoming a diverse international student community is providing a clear pathway to Drew, as well as continuing to support the educational and personal development of that community of scholars. Drew does both through its INTO Drew University program as well as through its Office of International Student & Scholar Services. The former offers a combination of intensive language study, academic skills development, and student support services, while the latter assists with adjustments to life in the United States, provides access to vital resources, contributes to a campuswide appreciation of other cultures, and assists the international community with visa compliance issues. These programs and services greatly contribute to Drew’s IIE Open Doors ranking.

Schools like Franklin and Marshall (5th), Richmond (7th), Wesleyan (8th), Bard (15th), Barnard (19th), Skidmore (22nd), and Bucknell (28th) also made the Top 40 list, compiled based on 2019–20 enrollment data.

At No. 6, Drew is currently ranked at its highest point yet. Last year Drew jumped into the nation’s top 10 by claiming the No. 8 spot, and ranked 15th in 2018 and 19th in 2017.
