Online event features heartfelt words and messages from The Forest
May 2021 – The Drew University community gathered online to remember Ajay Sah C’22, whose passing was reported on Monday, May 3. He had previously been missing since January 19.
“Ajay elevated our campus and all those with whom he came into contact,” said President Tom Schwarz in opening remarks.
“Ajay arrived eager to explore the campus, broaden his horizons, engage in new experiences, and meet new people,” added Laura Arthur, Director of International Student and Scholar Services, noting how quick Ajay was to immerse himself in clubs, student government, and civic engagement efforts on campus and in the local Madison community.
Images and videos of Ajay on campus, sent in by members of the Drew community, filtered across the screen throughout the recording.
“His true spirit is reflected so perfectly in these shared memories,” said Arthur. “He was curious and adventurous, kind and generous, ready for a good laugh. But most important, always surrounded by friends.
“He was raised in a culture that values the collective over the individual. He shared that gift with all of us every day.”
Video and written messages from students, faculty, and staff filled the presentation.
“He is forever a part of our campus and our lives,” said Frank Merckx, Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, in closing remarks
“He was perfect in any role that he stepped into—hardworking, dedicated, brilliant, yet always eager to learn.
“Ajay cared so deeply about his family, friends, the Drew and Madison communities, and because of that he received so much love from so many.”
