May 2022 – After two years at the University of Miami, Angelia Lobifaro C’22 decided to search for a school that addressed a few needs that weren’t being met at a big school.
So, she started looking at Drew University.
“What attracted me to Drew initially was hearing about the research opportunities they have for students, as well as small science class sizes— two things that were really important to me,” said Lobifaro, a biology major.
Lobifaro noted the “extremely friendly” transfer admissions team that helped introduce her to Drew.
“They were available to help me with whatever I needed and that left a really good impression on me. They were also really flexible when it came to accepting previous credits I had earned. Drew made a hectic transfer process so easy and all the stars just aligned!”
With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lobifaro spent her first semester at Drew studying virtually. Thanks to a supportive group of fellow transfers and a welcoming campus environment, she was able to overcome the hurdle.
“I was surprised how easily I was able to integrate into the community here, but it’s easy because everyone here is very friendly. Now, I have two campus jobs, I’m heavily involved in the school’s newspaper, and I successfully conducted research here at Drew which was my goal from the start!”
Close-knit campus? Check. Undergraduate research? Check. Benefiting from small class sizes and attentive professors? Also check…
“All of the professors here at Drew are truly outstanding,” said Lobifaro.
“They go above and beyond for their students and truly care about your learning experience, which has probably my favorite part about going to school here. I was able to build a strong relationship with my physics professor Dr. Minjoon Kouh [associate professor of physics and neuroscience] during my second semester here and by the next summer, we began doing research together. He also was the one who recommended me for the campus job I currently have!”
Now, Lobifaro will graduate with a bachelor of science in biology with hopes of finding a position in a research lab as she applies to dental school.
