Pursuing a PhD in Political Science at the University of Missouri
May 2024 – Drew University’s Class of 2024 has graduated, so we’re taking a look at where they’re headed.
Molly Reidmiller C’24, a political science major and history minor, was an Action Scholar and Baldwin Honors Scholar. During her final semester at Drew, she interned in U.S. Representative Mikie Sherrill’s office for Partners of Women and Justice.
Where she’s headed: Reidmiller will continue her education at the University of Missouri, pursuing a PhD in political science.
On her time at Drew: “Drew’s Political Science Department has been integral towards my transition to graduate school following graduation. Without their support, I would have never challenged myself to apply to PhD programs or present at a research conference in D.C. I want to thank [Assistant] Professor [of Political Science and International Relations Chelsea] Ebin, my thesis mentor, for being such a calm and guiding force during my senior year. I am truly grateful Professor Ebin came to Drew this year.
“I found my internship with Rep. Sherrill’s office through Drew’s Center for Career Development. Prior, I had no real-world experience in my field. The internship opened my eyes to how much a district office can do for its constituents and how much the Congresswoman does for her community. I found my involvement with immigration casework to be the most fulfilling, as I saw firsthand the tedious and time consuming nature of America’s immigration process.
“As a member of Drew’s chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the Political Science honor society, I was eligible to apply for their research conference in Washington, DC. To my surprise, I was accepted. I presented my research on Menstrual Inequity in Prisons from my thesis. The research conference showed me I was meant to continue down my path towards academia. I enjoyed hearing feedback on my research and connecting with other undergrad researchers.”
