Drew University Provides Two Pathways to Dual-Degrees in Engineering

Through partnerships with Columbia University and Washington University in St. Louis

October 2024 – Drew University, in collaboration with Columbia University and Washington University in St. Louis, offers two Dual-Degree program options for students seeking degrees in engineering.

The programs allow students to earn both an undergraduate degree at Drew and an engineering Bachelor of Science from Columbia University or Washington University at an accelerated and flexible pace—saving time and money.

These programs are designed to couple a liberal arts education with an engineering degree—an attractive alternative to traditional highly-structured engineering curricula. Program graduates possess strong communications and problem-solving skills, a broad background in the humanities and social sciences, and a high-quality technical education.

“At Drew for their first three years of college, Dual-Degree students enjoy our diverse community, small classes, and supportive learning environment,” said Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science and Engineering Dual-Degree Liaison Officer Steve Kass.

Students graduate prepared to advance in technical management and to play major roles in solving increasingly complex societal problems.

Students spend three years at Drew, then transfer to Columbia or Washington at the end of their junior year for two additional years of study. Students should complete their general education requirements, major requirements, and pre-engineering requirements while at Drew.

“Drew’s expansive academic and extra-curricular opportunities complement the mathematics and science prerequisite courses that prepare them for a final two years as undergraduates, immersed in the world of engineering,” continued Kass.

Students may pursue any major at Drew. Multiple engineering majors are offered through Columbia and Washington, including biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, and computer engineering, just to name a few.

Students may also earn an engineering master’s degree at Washington in addition to the undergraduate engineering and liberal arts degrees by enrolling in a graduate three-year option.

In all, Drew offers 20 Dual-Degree programs with Drew’s Caspersen School of Graduate Studies, Drew Theological School, and other partnering institutions, including NYU, Boston University, and Duke University.
