Women’s History Month: A Reflection from Ashley Tranquille

Words of inspiration and vision from the Assistant Director of the Center for Career Development

March 2025 – As the Assistant Director of the Center for Career Development here at Drew University, I have dedicated my career to guiding students toward their futures, particularly those from underserved backgrounds. Growing up in Irvington, New Jersey, I always knew my purpose was to create opportunities for those who, like me, faced systemic barriers to success. My passion for change and community service was ignited during my undergraduate years when I joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Through this sisterhood, I embraced the values of leadership, service, and empowerment, which continue to shape my work in higher education today.

Women’s History Month, to me, is more than just a time for reflection; it is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible contributions of women at all levels, whether they are leading on global platforms or making an impact in our local communities, schools, and homes. It is a time to recognize the resilience, strength, and innovation of women who push boundaries and uplift others.

I am deeply inspired by influential Black women who have paved the way for future generations, including Phylicia Rashad, Michelle Obama, and Maya Angelou. Their grace, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to excellence remind me of the power of perseverance and purpose. Additionally, I draw strength from the women in my sorority, whose dedication to service and advocacy continuously inspire me to create meaningful change.

Looking ahead, I aspire to continue breaking down barriers in higher education, ensuring that all students, regardless of their background, have access to the resources and support they need to thrive.

As I pursue my doctoral degree, my aim is to expand my knowledge of educational equity and create initiatives that support student success. Through strategic leadership, mentorship, and advocacy, I strive to make a meaningful impact, demonstrating that education is not only a pathway to individual growth but also a powerful force for community transformation.

This Women’s History Month is a time to recognize and uplift the women who inspire us, those making history on a grand scale and those creating meaningful change in our daily lives. I am honored to celebrate their contributions. May we continue to honor their legacies, not just this month, but every day by finding ways to uplift, empower, and advocate for the women in our communities.
