Women’s History Month: A Reflection from Kimberly Giorgio

Words of inspiration and vision from the Director of the Center for Career Development

March 2025 – Women’s History Month is so important to celebrate the women who came before us and paved the path we walk today. Their hard work and sacrifices laid the foundation for progress, but that progress didn’t come easily. We must continue that work to ensure future generations benefit from the freedom, opportunities, and equality they fought for.

I am inspired daily by working moms who get up every morning and do a full day’s work before even stepping into the office. They hand their babies off each day, silently crying on their way to work, wondering what they’ll miss. They sit in small rooms at work, pumping, hoping they’re doing enough. They question every choice they make, thanks to society’s unrealistic expectations of “having it all.” They face constant unsolicited advice and criticism from all directions, with perfect strangers telling them how to be a “better mom.”

To all the working moms—I see you. You’re doing great. Keep raising each other up; we are stronger together. Remember to be kind to yourselves. You are doing an incredible job, and even though you may not hear it enough, you are enough just as you are. You are more than your to-do lists, your job, or the expectations others place on you.

As Taylor Swift wisely said, “Never be so polite, you forget your power.” Working moms, you hold incredible power in your hands—the power to shape the future. Never forget your strength.
