Drew University’s Education Program Earns Educator Preparation Accreditation

CAEP accreditation places Drew’s education programs among a select group

May 2026 – The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) has renewed Drew University’s national accreditation with a Recognition of Excellence.

“Accreditation by CAEP is a significant honor for Drew’s teacher certification programs,” said Kristen Hawley Turner, professor and faculty director of Drew’s new college, who served as Drew’s director of teacher education for the last nine years.

“Drew’s programs are focused on creating excellent teachers that meet the needs of today’s students, and CAEP’s recognition of our excellence shows that Drew understands what it takes to cultivate quality teachers.”

CAEP accreditation places Drew among a select group of institutions recognized for educating the next generation of teachers.

Drew currently offers a Master of Education (MEd) and Master of Art in Teaching (MAT) degree through the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies; New Jersey state teaching endorsements in Teacher of Students with Disabilities, English as a Second Language, and Bilingual Education; Alternate Route programs in elementary and secondary education; minors in education & society and teaching within the College of Liberal Arts; a paraprofessional teacher pathway at the undergraduate level; and a non-degree certificate in teaching writing.

The University also offers a 4+1 Dual-Degree in teaching, which allows Drew students to earn a bachelor’s degree in any field while taking up to four courses that count for both undergraduate and graduate requirements in pursuit of an MAT. The 4+1 program allows for students to fast-track earning their advanced degree, saving both time and money.

Drew is also home to the Drew Writing Project and Digital Literacies Collaborative, a site of the National Writing Project, and host of the professional development network DrewTEACH, which brings together teachers across the state for continuing education. The annual AI and Writing Symposium, to be held this year on October 20, was one of the first places New Jersey teachers could come together to think through the implications of AI on educational practices.
