Drew Theological School Professor and Librarian Jesse Mann Awarded Wabash Grant

Supporting a project involving a University-wide cohort of experts

December 2024 – Drew Theological School Associate Teaching Professor in the History of Christianity and Practice of Theological Research and Theological Librarian Jesse Mann has been awarded a Small Project Grant from the Wabash Center.

Mann’s project, entitled “The Multiple Impacts of AI on Theological Education,” will feature a series of presentations from experts on various aspects of AI. Participating in the grant from Drew University with Mann will be: Instructional Designer Jenna Corraro, English Professor Sandra Jamieson, Assistant Professor of the History of Christianities Gladson Jathanna, Assistant Professor of Hebrew Bible Don Sung Kim, and Digital Initiatives Manager Danielle Reay.

“The technological, pedagogical, ethical, and societal impacts of AI are increasingly obvious to many in academia and beyond,” said Mann. “This Wabash Small Project grant affords us at Drew an excellent opportunity to learn more about the multiple impacts of AI and to share what we learn with the wider Drew community. The grant attests to the Wabash Center’s commitment to pedagogical innovation and professional development. I am grateful for their support.”

Mann’s project originated from his participation in the Wabash Center’s “Curiosity Roundtable,” held in Atlanta last September.

The Wabash Center, funded by Lilly Endowment Inc., supports faculty in the fields of theology and religion, reflecting on teaching and the teaching life when employed in theological education, colleges, and universities in the U.S. and Canada. Their ultimate goal is to help teachers to teach better.

Findings from the presentations will be shared with the Drew community late 2025.
