Drew University Physics Alum Now Teaching at Kutztown University

Danielle Seier discusses her time at Drew and how she pays it forward

January 2025 – Drew University alum Danielle (Holz) Seier C’15 now goes by either “Doctor Seier” or “Professor Seier”.

Seier is now an assistant professor of physics, physical sciences, at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, and directly connects her current position to her time at Drew.

“My first opportunity to explore physics at Drew was Physics I with Dr. (Jim) Supplee (professor of physics),” she said. “This is where I confirmed my fascination with the subject. As my time at Drew continued, I was able to immerse myself more in the sciences with upper-level courses, extracurricular activities, and research. My time at Drew made me believe it was possible to have my passion be my career.”

After Drew, Seier earned her MS and PhD from Lehigh University. Before heading to Kutztown, she served as a postdoctoral fellow with the global pharmaceutical healthcare giant Sanofi.

Now leading the classroom, Seier finds herself reflecting on when and how she learned the material, while also observing the student interactions that remind her of her time at Drew.

“An independent study with Dr. (Rob) Murawski (associate professor of physics) stands out, my classmates and I sitting by the fireplace discussing general relativity. It was these unforgettable experiences that led me down the path to get my PhD and become a professor.”

In addition to teaching, Seier is also conducting biophysics research and includes undergraduate students whenever possible, paying forward the similar opportunities provided by Professor and Chair of Biology Roger Knowles, RISE Fellow John Eickemeyer, and Minjoon Kouh, a former longtime Drew physics and neuroscience professor.

“I had such a positive experience at Drew. The physics department inspired my career choice of becoming a physics professor because they were always engaging and supportive.”
