Drew Launches New Joint Degrees in Nursing, Nutrition

Now offers 11 combined degrees.

March 2018 – Drew University forged a new partnership to offer combined degree programs in nursing and nutrition.

The partnership enables students to seamlessly earn BAs at Drew and then post-graduate degrees at Drexel University in Philadelphia.

“We are known for many very strong science and science research programs; this is just building out the options that are available to our students,” said Debra Liebowitz, provost and dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Caspersen School of Graduate Studies.

In the nursing partnership, Drew students can earn a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of science in nursing in just five years. Students will attend Drew for four years, then earn their BSNs in 11 months of accelerated full-time study at Drexel.

The nutrition combined degree is designed for students who want to become registered dietitians. It examines how biochemistry, physiology and biology affect nutritional needs.

Drew students who qualify for the nutrition program can receive both a bachelor’s degree and a master of science in human nutrition in either five or six years. In the five-year program, students spend three years and one semester at Drew, and 18 months at Drexel. In the six-year program, students spend four years at Drew and two years at Drexel.

The new combined degrees are among 10 that Drew offers through sister schools. Several of the partnerships include scholarships and many allow students to complete their studies in less time than usual, saving them time and money.

“They’re out in the job market quicker, so they’re earning money sooner than they would otherwise,” said Robert Massa, senior vice president of enrollment and institutional planning.

Several of the programs offer guaranteed admission to graduate or professional school, as long as the students meet grade requirements.

“That’s a real benefit to students who are trying to get into competitive programs,” Liebowitz said. “The partner institutions are recognizing the value of a Drew degree.”

Beyond the Drew-Drexel programs, the academic partnerships include:

  • Business management with Wake Forest University
  • Engineering with Columbia University
  • Environmental management with Duke University
  • Forestry with Duke University
  • Law with New York Law School
  • Law with Seton Hall University
  • Medicine with Rutgers New Jersey Medical School
  • Software engineering with Stevens Institute of Technology
  • Teaching with Drew’s Caspersen School of Graduate Studies
