January 2019 – To celebrate the life of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the month he was born, Drew University is helping others and honoring those who epitomize his values. Here’s a look at the school’s MLK-related events.
Jan. 19 – Service Saturday
Students, faculty and staffers help build a home in Mine Hill Township for Habitat for Humanity and volunteer at the Market Street Mission Thrift Store in Morristown. (Register here.)
Habitat: 8:30 a.m.-noon. Thrift store: 10 a.m.-noon
Jan. 21 – Salute and Serve
The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award Luncheon (RSVP here) in Crawford Hall salutes members of the Drew community who epitomize the values of MLK. Afterward, students gather in The Space to tackle public service projects, including knitting hats and packaging toiletries for homeless individuals, writing letters for Amnesty International and making toys for shelter dogs.

Jan. 24 – Give Blood
Students, staffers and faculty donate blood to help residents of California who were impacted by wildfires.

Jan. 30 – Hear The Word
The Rev. Dr. Leslie Callahan of St. Paul’s Baptist Church in Philadelphia speaks during a community forum and then a chapel service organized by the Black Ministerial Caucus at Drew Theological School. The forum is followed by lunch.
