Washington Monthly: Drew Is Top 100

Drew ranked 85th in nation, jumps 36 spots from 2018.

August 2019 – Movin’ on up! Washington Monthly vaulted Drew University solidly into their top 100 in their annual college rankings of liberal arts schools, jumping 36 spots from last year.

Ranked 85th in the publication’s 2019 Liberal Arts Rankings, Drew is the highest ranked school in New Jersey, and one of only two to make the final list of more than 200 schools.

Drew is in good company. Skidmore, for instance, is ranked at 83. Other notable peers and aspirant schools include Juniata, Ursinus, Muhlenburg, Oberlin, Bard and Sarah Lawrence colleges.

Washington Monthly ranks schools based on “contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility, research and promoting public service,” according to their site.

Within their overall rankings, Washington Monthly also ranks Drew as 72nd in the country in their “Best Bang for the Buck” social mobility metric, which is calculated using earnings after college.

According to their methodology, “Washington Monthly has ranked colleges based on what they do for the country. It’s our answer to U.S News & World Report, which relies on crude and easily manipulated measures of wealth, exclusivity, and prestige.”
