The Forest is ‘Green’ for 10th straight year
October 2019 – The Princeton Review has named Drew University in its Guide to Green Colleges for the 10th consecutive year.
The guide recognizes the nation’s most environmentally responsible colleges based on schools’ sustainability-focused policies, practices and programs.
Drew is one of 413 schools to make the guide, and has been on the list every year since its inception in 2010.
“We salute—and strongly recommend—Drew to the many environmentally-minded students who want to study and live at a green college,” said Rob Franek C’93, The Princeton Review’s Editor-in-Chief.
According to the publication, 64 percent of nearly 12,000 teens and parents surveyed in a poll noted that a school’s commitment to the environment is a key factor in deciding whether to apply or attend a given school.
Drew puts an emphasis on sustainability both in the classroom—with the Environmental Studies and Sustainability program’s BS and BA degrees—and in practice, maintaining the 45-acre Drew Forest Preserve and leading sustainability efforts like the annual Fern Fest restoration project.
The Drew Theological School also co-hosts The Green Seminary Initiative—co-founded by Laurel Kearns, professor of the sociology of religion and environmental studies—which encourages green initiatives and provides future religious leaders with skills to employ these initiatives in their parishes.
Earlier this year, The Princeton Review ranked Drew in the nation’s top 10 in inclusiveness and theater production categories. The publication also named Drew to its annual The Best 385 Colleges in the U.S. guide.
Drew has also recently earned a top 100 national ranking from Washington Monthly, been named a top 10 ‘Best Buy’ school in the country by Fiske, and was ranked as New Jersey’s top liberal arts school by U.S. News & World Report.
