The community is mourning the loss of the former associate dean, professor, alum
November 2021 – Drew Theological School is mourning the passing of the Rev. Dr. Albert J.D. Aymer T’78,’80,’83, former associate dean, professor, and alum of the school.
Born in Antiqua, Aymer immigrated with his family to the US from Jamaica in 1977—arriving at Drew Theological School to pursue his MA, MPhil, and PhD in New Testament.
Shortly after his dissertation, Aymer started his 12-year career at the Theological School as the first assistant dean, later becoming an associate dean, director of the Doctor of Ministry program, and associate professor of contemporary ministries.
Aymer left Drew in 1993 to assume a brief appointment as the senior pastor of First United Methodist Church in Morristown, New Jersey. He then joined Hood Theological Seminary for a 20-year career, officially retiring in 2013 as president of the seminary.
A memorial service will take place at the South Orange-Valisburg United Methodist Church in South Orange, New Jersey, on December 11, 2021, at 11 a.m.
