Cassella now works in wealth management, helping families invest and plan
March 2022 – Lauren Cassella C’21 chose Drew University’s business program because of the good things she’d heard about the New York Semester on Wall Street.
Cassella, a business major and psychology minor, took part in the Wall Street semester and wasn’t disappointed.
“I was able to make connections and contacts because of the great guest speakers in the program,” she said. “It was a great way to learn about different career paths and get an in-depth look at what those careers look like day-to-day. I asked questions and gained valuable advice by connecting with the guest speakers individually, and then stayed in contact via email, LinkedIn, and social media.”
Cassella found she wanted to work in finance and business to help people achieve financial independence and maximize their assets. She now works in Wiss & Co.’s family office wealth management department where she assists high net worth clients with investing their money and creating financial plans.
She arrived at the Florham Park-based Wiss & Co.—which employs a number of Drew alums—with a strong business acumen and a toolkit of skills picked up in and out of the classroom.
“I took advantage of minoring in psychology which is helpful when working in finance and interacting with all kinds of people,” she said.
“After my first year I felt fully acclimated to college life and made a conscious decision to excel in the classroom,” she added. “Being a two-sport athlete in soccer and lacrosse, time management skills were essential to achieving my goal of receiving academic honors throughout my time at Drew.”
Cassella also credits Drew’s environment with providing her the leg up she needed to succeed in her position as she meets with clients.
“Since Drew is a small school, I had the opportunity to connect and establish meaningful relationships at all levels. Between professors, coaches, alumni, classmates, etc., I was able to meet a lot of great people and be exposed to a really diverse environment that has helped me in my career.”
