“I experienced true belonging”
June 2022 – Teresita Matos-Post T’14,’23 earned her Master of Divinity in 2014 from Drew Theological School, and has returned to pursue her Doctor of Ministry (DMin) with a specialization in Women’s Religious Leadership.
The program is designed to deepen women’s considerable gifts for leadership, engaging women-centered theories, wisdom, and practices, as well as Drew’s long tradition of feminist, womanist, and LGBTQ theology and theory.
“I experienced true belonging,” said Matos-Post of the program. “It has been a safe space sheltered from the male gaze to delve deep in theological inquiry.”
Matos-Post was a pastor in the United Methodist Church, and is the executive director of Beth-El Farmworker Ministry in Florida, a nonprofit ministry serving the farm-working community through opportunities for hunger relief, education, healthcare, and spiritual growth.
She is using her DMin project to “build a network of Latina religious leaders who are called and share galvanized power to blaze ways to do ministry that is contextual and relevant to disenfranchised Latinx communities.”
“I am interested in the non-traditional ways Latina religious leadership emerges within and outside denominations—the ways in which we navigate hostility, micro-aggressions, racism, and misogyny in the spaces we are called to lead.”
