The students were celebrated at a matriculation service and signed the 150-year-old matriculation book
July 2022 – Over 30 Doctor of Ministry (DMin) students were welcomed to Drew Theological School during a matriculation service that included song, scripture, and the long-standing tradition of signing of the 150-year-old matriculation book.
“The signing of the matriculation book is a rite of passage for new Drew Theological School students,” said Edwin David Aponte, dean of the Theological School. “I am signing this book with you in spirit as we embark on this great adventure together.”
The DMin students are part of the Courageous Leadership in a Changing Culture cohort, which offers specializations in Church and Pandemic; Faith, Health, and Social Equity; Institutional Transformation for Social Impact; and Women’s Religious Leadership.
“The Doctor of Ministry is the highest degree undertaken in the practice of ministry,” said J. Terry Todd, associate professor of American religious studies. “You are all rooted in particular communities. It is from those communities that you come here to study and enrich our common life—bringing with you commitments to equality, fairness, economic and racial justice, and revolutionary love. We come together to put our intelligence—as well as our spiritual convictions—to work to transform the world as disciples of Christ.”
