Dianne Lee C’23 is entering Columbia University’s biomedical engineering program through Drew’s Dual-Degree offering

May 2023 – The members of the Drew University College of Liberal Arts Class of 2023 are set to graduate and start their careers and continue their educations in an array of disciplines, fields, and subjects.

We’ve talked with many C’23 students to see where they’re headed.

Dianne Lee C’23 | Columbia University Biomedical Engineering

Major: Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (BS)

How did Drew prepare you for these next steps?

During my time at Drew, my professors and advisors contributed greatly to my achievements. Through their mentorship, I always felt supported and was able to come to them whenever I needed help. Moreover, the research opportunities provided, including Drew Summer Science Institute (DSSI), enabled me to attain hands-on experience and strengthen my practical knowledge. Although there were many hard days, my professors and advisors inspired me to always keep moving forward.

Drew having a Dual-Degree program, where I was able to get a BS at Drew and go on to earn another BS degree in biomedical engineering from Columbia in another two years, has been a great opportunity.

Did you have any mentors at Drew?

I want to thank Dr. Adam Cassano [chair and associate professor of chemistry] and Dr. Christopher Fazen [assistant professor of chemistry] for their tremendous support and help, especially during my last few semesters at Drew. Dr. Cassano was so encouraging and supportive as my research instructor and thesis advisor. Through his mentorship, I was able to expand my analytical skills in research. He taught me to always set my goals high and, if I ever struggle, I will still land above my expectations. Dr. Fazen was so helpful as my advisor. He always ensured I had my classes planned out each semester and guided me through the application process for my post-grad plans.
