Drew Voices: Africa Day

A compilation of reflections from members of the student-led caucus AfriSCaD

May 2023 – Africa Day, an annual celebration observed on May 25, honors the rich cultural heritage, diversity, and accomplishments of the African nations and its people.

It commemorates the founding of the Organization of African Unity (now known as the African Union) in 1963, formed to promote unity, cooperation, and development across the continent.

Africa Day is a momentous occasion for Africans worldwide to showcase their cultural expressions, artistic talents, and achievements, while also reflecting on the challenges that lie ahead. It is a day of unity, pride, and renewed commitment to the development, progress, and empowerment of Africa and its people.

Members of Drew University’s student-led African Student Community at Drew (AfriSCaD) student caucus offered a variety of reflections to commemorate Africa Day. Read on to learn more and be inspired in this compilation of voices from the Drew community.
