Pursuing a Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Health program at Temple University
May 2024 – Drew University’s Class of 2024 has graduated, so we’re taking a look at where they’re headed.
Caira Blake C’24, a molecular biology and biochemistry major with a minor in Spanish, is a captain and social media manager for Drew’s Women’s Fencing team. She is an ambassador for the Center for Global Education, participating in a one-month shortTREC to Spain. She has held club leadership positions, including president of the Black Student Union, serving as the biology department greenhouse manager, and taking part in the Drew Summer Science Institute (DSSI).
Blake was awarded the Suzanne and Ronald Saldarini Research Fellowship in the Sciences, which enabled her to participate in the DSSI and conduct her summer research.
Where she’s headed:
Blake is pursuing a Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Health program at Temple University. She will be a member of Temple’s Division I fencing team, currently ranked 8th in the NCAA.
She plans to enter Tuskegee University’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 2025.
On her time at Drew:
“I learned valuable research skills that have prepared me for my final semesters at college and my continuing semesters at graduate and veterinary school. First, my teamwork skills were boosted, specifically my ability to problem solve as a whole. Secondly, my experimental design and setup were greatly improved, as I have seen firsthand this semester in my current research project. Third, my organizational skills have been strengthened as well, as this research experience required me to be strategic with my timing.
“My time at Drew has been like climbing a ladder, and through continuous enrichment through the school’s programs, I feel that I am well on my way to the top rung.”
